Nancy Peterson is a Senior Consultant with Total School Solutions. She most recently completed her service as Director of Secondary Curriculum at the San Marcos Unified School District in Northern San Diego County. She has served in the education community throughout her career as a teacher, assistant principal, and high school principal. She has an excellent understanding of what changes are necessary in the classroom to implement new literacy standards and she was responsible for guiding her district’s strategic effort to transition to the Common Core State Standards.
As an educator, Ms. Peterson is highly accomplished. She has previously worked with a team of professionals to create new curriculum design for the opening of a new high school. In the role of principal, she created an environment that led to an increase in the API score of over 200 points at a diverse comprehensive high school. She oversaw an increase in the AP qualifying rate by 15% and the CAHSEE pass rate by 24% over a period of only three years. She also created and implemented various intervention programs for English Language Learners and Special Education populations. In addition, she created and delivered professional development presentations to district and site personnel on Secondary School structures for success and Secondary School interventions.
In her recent role as Director of Secondary Curriculum, she was responsible for a variety of district level programs such as ROP, Perkins Grants, EETT Technology grant programs, 1:1 technology implementation, WASC accreditations, AP, STAR and CAHSEE testing programs and college readiness programs such as PACE Promise.
During her career, she has been engaged in countless efforts to benefit students and schools. Her successful endeavors include key district-wide structures for student success, such as the selection of essential standards in ELA and Math, aligned to California state standards and the new Common Core; creation of common pacing guides and curricula, as well as common district-wide benchmark summative assessments for all core content areas; implementation and use of an assessment management system; and implementation of an effective content area communications system.
In addition to the successful completion of various professional certificates and programs, Ms. Peterson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from the University of Arizona and a Masters of Education degree from the University of Arizona.
