ENGAGEMENT STRATEGIES FOR IMPROVING STUDENT LEARNING
Who Should Attend
Administrators, educators, and support staff.
This course will give educators strategies utilizing Gardner's eight intelligences: verbal/linguistic; logical/mathematical; visual/spatial; bodily/kinesthetic; musical/rhythmic; interpersonal; intrapersonal; and naturalistic. In addition to these strategies total participation techniques will be explored. At the end of the course educators will be able to incorporate many different strategies to increase student engagement.
To prepare teachers with a variety of instructional strategies to implement in content classes and language development classes to build student success.
About the Presenter
Felicia Adkins is the Director of Educational Services for Banning Unified School District. Ms. Adkins has 23 years of public education as a high school Spanish teacher, English as a Second Language teacher, high school assistant principal, middle school assistant principal, elementary assistant principal, high school principal, continuation high school principal, and director of educational services. In addition to her experience in public education, she has three years as an alternative teacher for expelled students within private schools and the California Youth Authority.
At Banning Unified School District, Ms. Adkins is charged with all administrative training, teacher training and all curricular decisions for instruction. She has a diverse background in curriculum and instruction; professional development, teacher training, elementary and secondary education, professional learning communities utilizing data to inform decisions to support improved student achievement. Ms. Adkins uses her experiences to enhance the teaching and learning environment in order to achieve academic success for all students.
Ms. Adkins received her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degree from California State University, San Bernardino.
Hours of Instruction
This course is for 15 hours of instruction, two day consecutive days with an opportunity for follow-up activities for the purposes of implementation of learned content.
