Session Description

Assessment is a key component of effective instruction and plays a major role in improving student achievement. Each type of assessment serves a specific function in evaluating teaching and learning.

This course will focus on the effective use of formative and summative assessment by school teams. Topics to be discussed will include:
  • Defining both formative and summative assessment;
  • Analyzing the purpose of each type of assessment;
  • Using formative assessment to inform instruction;
  • Assessing the purpose and use of summative assessments;
  • Examining student assessment results through the cycle of inquiry process; and
  • Developing formative and summative assessments to drive instruction.

Training Goals

To provide school and district staff with best practices to develop, analyze, and use formative and summative assessments to deliver informed instruction.

About the Presenter

Mr. Andrew Stetkevich

Mr. Stetkevich has over 35 years of experience in education. He has taught at the elementary and secondary levels in both general education and special education. His previous positions include: mentor teacher, beginning teacher support provider, site administrator, adjunct professor of education, program specialist, and staff development specialist. Mr. Stetkevich currently works as a staff development specialist (K-12) for the Riverside Unified School District in Riverside, California. He has a passion for working with diverse learners and has presented on this subject at various national and international conferences, including the British Dyslexia Association and the European Literacy Conference.

This course consists of two sessions of 7 hours of instruction each day.

Cancellations received after May 22, 2018 and “No Shows” will be subject to the full registration fee.
