Sandy Barry
Senior Consultant

Sandra Barry enjoyed a successful public education career working in several school districts in Orange County, California, including Buena Park and Anaheim City School Districts. After teaching for nine years at the junior high and elementary levels, Mrs. Barry spent over 20 years as an Assistant and Deputy Superintendent of Educational Services and eight years as a Superintendent. Through these experiences, Mrs. Barry developed many critical competencies of outstanding leadership that make her a much sought-after consultant, executive coach, and interim superintendent by school districts throughout California.

Working in both a mid-size and large school district gave Mrs. Barry opportunities to work closely with teachers, administrators, classified employees, boards of education, parents, and community partners in the design, development, implementation, evaluation, and improvement of a variety of curricular, student, and family programs, projects, and services. Her success in these many efforts was largely due to her ability to build strong relationships with people and to focus on what matters most. Mrs. Barry is an expert at creating environments where people understand their mission…to ensure students receive an education that leads to success in life. Empowering others to use their skills, knowledge, talents, perspectives, and ideas to accomplish the school/district mission; creating motivating and emotional climates that foster innovation and all-out performance; communicating effectively; and exhibiting a sense of constancy and caring are critical competencies which Mrs. Barry possesses. Since retirement, she has coached cabinet level educators as well as human resource, finance, and education directors in developing these same traits on their paths to becoming effective leaders.

Mrs. Barry also works with Boards on effective boardsmanship; the identification of their core values, mission, and vision; and instilling systems and conditions that allow for shifts within school and district cultures.  Additionally, Mrs. Barry understands that good communication is the foundation of good leadership and can assist districts and boards of education in designing strategies/tools for improving internal and external communication. She can also guide you in developing strategic partnerships with community groups, clubs, businesses, and organizations.

Volunteer service has been an important part of her life. Currently, she serves on the Board of Governors for the Tiger Woods Foundation and as a resource to the educational teams at the Anaheim, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and Jupiter, FL-based Tiger Woods Learning Centers. She is chair of the Children and Families Commission of Orange County, which allocates millions of tobacco-tax dollars to programs and services that ensure children are healthy and ready to learn when they enter kindergarten. Her philanthropic and professional efforts have earned Sandy numerous awards and recognitions and opportunities for her to be the featured speaker at many events.

Mrs. Barry earned her undergraduate degree in English and French from Nebraska Wesleyan University and her masters in curriculum and instruction from California State University, Fullerton.

Knowledgeable, energetic, authentic, optimistic, tenacious, and trustworthy, Sandra Barry can provide valuable assistance to educators and boards of education as they face the challenges and impending changes in today’s educational environment.
