John Schmitt, PhD

Dr. John Schmitt most recently served as the Associate Superintendent with the Torrance Unified School District in Los Angeles County prior to becoming an Educational Consultant working at school and district sites in several Southern California districts. Dr. Schmitt spent 39 years in public education, beginning his career as a high school teacher and serving many years as a high school principal and district office administrator.  As Associate Superintendent of the Torrance Unified he was both the curriculum leader for secondary education and directly supervised all 32 of the District’s K-12 principals.  Both of the high schools where he served as principal received multiple state and federal awards including California Distinguished School recognition during his tenure as principal.

During his career Dr. Schmitt’s experience included working with community organizations to form partnerships to support schools and serving as a leader in local education foundations.  As Associate Superintendent of a large unified school district for twelve years, he served as district liaison to the City Council and several philanthropic groups.  He has been an adjunct professor at the University level since 2005 and serves as a Chairperson of the Los Angeles Coastal Cities Division of the American Cancer Society. He has been selected as a leader of many professional organizations and bestowed many recognitions and awards.

Dr. Schmitt’s focus is on mentoring and coaching principals and district level administrators that has provided strong assistance and guidance to administrators and teachers in Kindergarten through High School across Southern California in strengthening their instructional strategies and skills.

Dr. Schmitt received his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts from California State University, Long Beach and his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern California.
